Broken year 2018

We won’t have time to divulge the broken year we’ve had in 2018.  So how about if I make this post just very short?  So you will have an idea of what is going to be coming in the next bit.

Let’s start with sports?? Maybe keep up with the word BROKEN for right now?  Jaden who was at the time 13.  Broke his nose!

My husband and I coach baseball and softball for the kids teams.  While we were coaching practice for the girls one day last spring, the boys were getting ready  by warming up for their practice.  At the time it was Jaden and his 2 best friends.  Passing the ball no big deal right next to our field.  Sean was NOT coaching Jaden’s team this year.

The coach comes running over to our backstop.  Says urgently to Sean.  Jaden has a bloody nose and its bad you need to come.  Sean yells out to the field where I am with some girls and I say “ok,  I’ll be right there”.  So I go walking.  You see, I’m not the urgency mom.  He has had them all the time really bad since he was just a few wks old, and usually can handle them on his own, so I wasn’t too concerned.  The coach is saying “it’s bad its really bad he got hit I think its bad”. So I speed up and get about 30 feet from him. His 2 friends on each side of him holding his arms while he is hunkered over.  Blood is just pouring out.  “Jaden are you okay? Look up at me for a minute.”  its just gushing and his nose is flat and no longer in the middle of his face, its  on the right.

Me being the ever so quick parent, say “can we walk to the toilet” I grabbed a huge wad of paper from the port a pot, then another.  “Jaden can you just wait here I should really tell your dad that Im 180 percent sure its broken and we need to go to the emergency room right now.”  I walk to our field and say “time out”. Sean walks towards me, then follows me to Jaden.

Sean goes back to practice and I go to the ER.  from the time of impact to the emergency room doors was just under 45 minutes.  So not much time had passed.  Obviously they agreed that it was broken, but because of his age and the pain that would be caused they said we had to follow up with a surgeon in a few days.  BUT no reading, must be in a dark room, no TV or video games.  This all means one thing…. no school.    That was a Thursday night.  Next Wednesday, we see surgeon he says swelling is still too much to do anything, so he schedules us for surgery.

There were 3 friends throwing balls.  yes, I said balls.  2 balls to be exact.  Jaden was looking at one boy waiting for the ball, that never came when he turned to look at the other BAM right in the sniffer from the other boy.  This is the reason for the nose on the wrong side of the face.  What in the world possess 3 boys to have 2 balls going at one time? Im telling you what, boys… I’m not thinking they grasp having smarts at times!

So our Jaden had Reconstructive Rhino surgery, missing a bit over a wk of school for recovery.  Now in 2015 he also had to have an emergency surgery but I’m not allowed to discuss that!img_0386 This photo was when it had begun healing before the surgery.

So in the next few reads you will see how our summer has continued into being a broken year.

Been away? Life changes

How much can life really change? Well, since I quit writing in 2014, lots has changed.  Good?  Bad?  Or maybe just drastically.  I’m obviously not going to get everything in one writing, and definitely not even going to attempt to.  And since my brain in on so many different things… How about if I just give small tidbits of the past almost 5 years?

In 2014 our family life went from Active Duty Military to a retired one.  We left the home we made in Las Vegas, where both our girls were born.  Made the move across the country to Ohio where I was raised.  We expected Ohio to be a short-term thing, thinking of Tennessee as our final destination.  However my husband eventually landed a job in Ohio so this is where we currently are.

We purchased the property from my dad where I had lived with my grandparents before I married back in 1994.  In 2016 we started building a new home on the property.  We have still been fighting with the company to complete everything on our home.  We are down to ceilings being some of the last things, along with a man door in the garage that brings in rain every single time to soak the garage.

Military life?  Well other than attempting to stay structured looking at our property you would have no idea!  I’m not really sure its a good thing, but everything has changed.  We  have just shy of 10 acres and have too many animals.  Currently we are at 4 dogs ( weren’t supposed to go more than 3, you’ll understand later), 18 chickens, 3 goats, 2 horses, 2 bearded dragons, and 2 cats.  New adventures still to come on the animal thing.

The kids all started a school as soon as we got here and in 2017, we made the choice to move schools with them ( they continue at this other school).  Our kids have enjoyed sports, playing softball, baseball, football, been cheerleaders, and soccer of course!  I’ve attempted for a few years to bowl in a league, but this year proved to be too much.

I still work in the insurance industry and from home.  I’m very blessed that I get to work for the same company just new agency.  And being able to work from home part-time, and this job was designed just for me.  It really doesn’t get much better than that.  I also help a friend with a merchandising job part time, well that is what it is supposed to be, but sometimes proves to be WAY full-time.

I will say that this life is way different from what we had before.  Good, bad, indifferent? Well you may need to ask me everyday, sometimes every hour, cause it really changes.  But who’s doesn’t?  I’m really hoping to get back to writing because…. well if you keep reading you will see what we have really been up to.  And you can learn as we are learning on this new journey.

Ordering a “Thank you!”

Ordering a “Thank you!”

I’ve been putting off writing again. For a couple of reasons.. 1st our computer bit the bullet a few months ago, when a lovely FBI scam hit us. Those of you that are fiimiliar…. I’m so sorry. but if you know how to eliminate the problem feel free to share with me!

As for the Ordering A “Thank you!”…. I was talking to my sister last wk, and we were talking amoung many things my mom saying that she had NOT recieved a Thank you card from my friend. So here is the story of my friend.

This is the friend that I went to the wedding in Hawaii in August. Her baby was due mid Feb. this year! YES WAS (another story).

Andrea’s conversation with her explained that she provided a service of making this gift, NOT it being a gift from her. (Andrea if you want to chime in on a note… feel free!) That this was a gift from me to my friend. FYI I bought ALL of the material and supplies. It was made at my house, and I made several trips across town to purchase all of the material. And I also boxed everything and mailed it out. Hence I’ve spent a couple hundred dollars on this gift! This still not sinking in at moms brain, she thinks that a Thank you card should be sent to her for making this!

NOW… let me say that a few days after me mailing the gift my friend asked me for moms address “so I can mail her a card when____ is born as a Thank you”

when my sister and I were talking neither of us honestly think that mom is due a Thank you card, because it is NOT a gift from her, it is a gift from me and I completely paid for everything, she only provided a service. I also want to say I paid for some extra material for my mom to take home for herself!

Obviously my friend already planned on thanking her but wanted to wait for a photo of the baby for thank you cards. My question is.. Is sending a card to my mom something that she is expected to do? Or is my sister and I just being brats?

I also found out the other day that when my mom was here and made this for me, that my friends parents gave my mom a couple of gifts and said thank you for the hard work on this project. Hmm, just saying!!!

here is a photo of the gift if you would like to see!

A little body art anyone?

A little body are anyone? Who wants to sign up to be Shyla’s second canvas?

apparently Shyla has decided that she is going to be an artist. I have no problem with that, I just hope that she decides that tattoos are not her choice! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not completely again that type of art. I think many times they are beautiful. Yes, I personally am body art free, I know that it’s not for everyone obviously. However I don’t know anyone that has that many tattoos. I don’t know where she got the idea from.

She was so proud of herself, and I am so glad that she used the face paint crayons that her grandmother bought for her, instead of markers that wouldn’t wash off so easily. And truthfully….. I think she did a really good job drawing on herself for a 5-year-old!

Weapons camp

I was wondering around on Facebook the other day, and stumbled upon this picture of Jaden. This was taken this summer at the Taekwondo studio during Weapons camp. I think his form looks really good! Ok, I must admit I’ve never personally seen him or anyone else work with this particular weapon. So to say if its GREAT FORM, I really don’t know as an expert! However, I think he looks like he had fun doing something different, so I am really glad that we decided to spend the extra money for him to go that wk!

CCAF complete!

Yippie his CCAF (Community College of the Air Force) is complete! I’m so proud of my husband!

He wasn’t so excited about the dressing in his blues and putting on a gown to walk for the graduation, but I know that he holds his head high. I know that he is glad that this long chapter of his education is complete. I also know that he is going to take a few more classes so that he can get his degree.

So this is just a post to let you know how proud I am of my husbands newest accomplishment! And he has already started telling the kids why he has worked so hard, and that he expects them to work as much on their education as he has!

Taking care

Is TAKING CARE of someone else’s belongings too much to ask for? My friend has a rental here in Las Vegas. She was trying to help another of her friends and this is what she was given in return.

Ok, so this is just a brief glimpse of what she had to look forward to. The person must have cooked daily with grease, because there was loads of it everywhere in the house that had to be cleaned. Holes in the wall? Broken door? Tubs that looked like you bathed a herd of Elephants? None of the drawers were cleaned out. The tile grout was black (it’s really supposed to be tan).

Sean and I have been considering renting out our house when he retires if the market is not that good. However after seeing what a friend in need can do to your home when you are trying to help them out, makes me wonder how a stranger would take care of your house. I know that every renter will not abuse your home, because Sean and I have rented two homes and both of them we left in better condition than when we were given the keys ( and both of them we were evicted from because they people foreclosed on their homes without telling us).

Have you had good luck with renters? Friends or not? I think TAKING CARE of someones home should just be a given when you are renting, NO matter the amount they are charging you!

Booboo please

I’m sure on one day or another we have all found our children messing with our necessities!! However out of my 3 children, my youngest (Schyler) is the only one who has seemed to find useful ways that pads can help her.
This particular day it was her baby had broken her arm and was begging for her Booboo to be fixed. so a pad was serving as a cast! She got to the baby before I could get a picture with her in a premie diaper from when Schyler was born. I think the doll was bigger than she was back then!

Most of the time the usefulness of the pads is for the riding horse in the toy room. You know the big ones with the springs that the kids ride? Well she uses the pads (2 at a time) on each leg for leg warmers. Someday I will get you a picture of that! It cracks me up each time!

Under lock and key

20130508-070946.jpg

I took this quite some time ago, but must have saved it in my drafts. I remember seeing the shelf in the store and thinking “why is this locked up, there is much more expensive things that are on the open shelf?”

I guess it just goes like everything else. If it is a necessity in life someone will want to take it for nothing. I honestly don’t understand this way of thinking, but upon discussing this very thing (picture) with my friends, I have found out, that this and toothpaste along with many other things are stolen regularly. My thought was that it is only $6. Why would you want to get caught stealing something so frivolous? You can buy the really cheap stuff for $2. I’m telling you right now, if I have to buy the cheap stuff I do, I don’t have a problem with it, do I usually prefer it, NOWAY, but you do what you got to do, right?!!

I’m not one who has ever stolen, and sometimes I go a bit overboard telling my kids what stealing is. Such as when they take my things here in the house. If it’s mine and you take it without permission, it’s simply stealing. I have found ( I know it’s not always the case) that the people I have seen or heard of stealing, they aren’t stealing cause they can’t pay for it. They take it cause they want it, but DONT want to pay for it.

It’s really sad when a store has to put something so simple as a $6 bottle of detergent under lock and key….. People if your running on hard times, just ASK, there are many places and people willing to help, but when people keep just TAKING what don’t belong to them…. we all want to go on lock down, and not want to help anyone…. at least that has been me in the past…. I want to help and want to give, but I get tired of being taken advantage of, just like this establishment.

This is how we use it!

Apparently “this is how we” use it! Is the topic for the wk for our bathroom. I have one child who openly admits to her faults, well should I maybe say that she admits to being in a room when something happens but not accepting to any responsibility.

Shyla (5yr old) comes flying out of the bathroom…. ” mom, I don’t know how this happens.”

Me ” what now?”

Shyla ” I’m not sure how theses things just fall and scare me.”

I turn and look as she is holding up 3/4 of the towel rod. I tell her to put it on the counter. This is what I find in the bathroom!

Guess it didn’t fall by itself, looks like a little monkey was hanging I think!

So I cleaned the important areas of the house yesterday and today! We have had a busy yet rough wk so I’m a bit behind in EVERYTHING!!! I just went into the bathroom to find out that I have in the past 38 years NOT known the proper use for toothpaste! I think I need my children to teach us this fine artistic way to utilize the toothpaste.

I guess once you get it clumped you go down a couple of inches and rub it in real good!!

The sad thing is the toothpaste I laughed at just now because, with all the running I’ve done I’ve just been happy at not fussing at them about their teeth. I guess since they seemed to be brushing without fighting I should have checked on them…..serves me right!

Wall scrub 101 is going to begin tomorrow.

Monkey Climb 102 will begin
